September Monthly Meeting – a panel discussion after Economic Forum in Karpacz

On September 11, 2024, we held our first Monthly Meeting after the summer break!
Tony Housh, AmCham Chairman and moderator of the discussion, welcomed all the guests and opened the meeting. Together with our panelists - Marcin Krasuski, Google; Anna Borys, McDonald's Polska; Mariusz Wawer, 3M; and Marek Żółtowski, BAT Poland - they discussed matters that were addressed during the 33rd Forum Ekonomiczne in Karpacz.
During our meeting we talked about Polish presidency of the EU Council and how it will affect our country’s competitiveness. We also discussed the need for the stability and clarity of regulations, as lack of clarity is problematic for companies operating in the Polish market.
We also delved into the topic of ESG, which was very prominent during this year’s Forum. Nowadays, everybody wants to decarbonise their business and go green. However, this change should be implemented in the correct way without losing the competitiveness of Poland and businesses active in our country’s market. What is more, number of new regulations and requirements can be problematic, therefore, the input of government and public sector officials is needed.
We also touched upon the US presidential elections and its impact on security and economy of our region and country. Our speakers agreed that this election will hold considerable significance on transatlantic relations and will influence the conduct of business. They also stated that security is something that cannot be tackled only by security forces, but also by businesses and governments.
Last but not least, we addressed the matter of AI and how it influences social and business lives. As Marcin Krasuski, Google, said, AI is our friend but “as all technology it comes with a price.” This technology can make our jobs and lives more efficient, but its implementation is still gradual and difficult.
