“Poland wants to become a regional hub for U.S. defense companies,” said Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, Government Plenipotentiary for the Security Action for Europe (hashtag) Instrument, during the roundtable discussion, Strengthening the Transatlantic Defense Industrial Base, co-organized by the U.S. Embassy Warsaw and the AmCham Defense & Security Committee on June 10.

Minister Sobkowiak-Czarnecka also highlighted the most important opportunities for developing the transatlantic industrial partnership and the key areas for strengthening the Polish defense industry. Magdalena Trzpil-Halota, Director of the International Funds Department at the Ministerstwo Obrony Narodowej (Ministry of National Defence), encouraged companies to seize the current momentum and work closely with government institutions to build an ecosystem that delivers benefits for industry, government, and Poland’s security.

The discussion opened by Ambassador Thomas Rose and Marta Poslad, AmCham Chairwoman (Google) and moderated by Jim Lindley brought together representatives of AECOM, AM General LLC/Engineering Arresting Systems, BAE Systems, Boeing, Citi, General Dynamics Land Systems, GE Aerospace, Honeywell Technologies, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Poland-U.S. Operations, RTX.

Participants shared numerous examples of their companies’ contributions to Poland’s defense modernization over the past three decades. At the same time, they highlighted the risks associated with excessive protectionism in the defense sector, including rising costs and reduced cost-effectiveness, delays in deliveries and reduced availability of capabilities, lower levels of innovation and technology transfer and disruptions to international supply chains.

We would like to thank U.S. Embassy Warsaw for co-organizing and hosting the meeting, Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka and Magdalena Trzpil-Halota for their remarkable openness and a clear commitment to continuing this important dialogue and to all participants for a productive and forward-looking discussion.
