"To support the growth and sustainability of American industrial investment in Poland by ensuring access to safe, reliable, diversified, affordable, and clean energy for both existing and prospective investors." If that sounds familiar, you’re right—it’s the mission of the AmCham Industry and Energy Committee and one of AmCham’s top strategic priorities for 2025 and beyond. We have recently updated and refined our strategic energy goals internally and presented them to Mr. Nathan Reich during the first AmCham meeting with the newly appointed Department of Energy Director and Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw.

“Whatever is appropriate in Poland to support its energy security, to help lower energy prices and do that over the long term, this is what we [the DoE] will be focused on,” said Mr. Reich in conversation with Mateusz Jurczyk on stage. "A robust Polish economy," he noted, "is in America's interest." Mr. Reich highlighted nuclear energy, both large scale and small modular reactors, and natural gas as primary areas of focus but emphasized his openness to supporting other technologies and energy sources. Mr. Reich heard concerns from the audience of American companies about high domestic energy prices and the need for a national vision of the country's energy system, without which it is difficult for them to invest. Mr. Reich invited attendees to provide him with data on how lower energy prices and new investments would positively impact U.S. export revenues and jobs in the United States.

For the American Chamber of Commerce, alongside efforts to reduce CO₂ emissions through large nuclear reactors and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), we must also acknowledge the critical role that a Regional Energy Training Center in Poland could play. This training hub - launched in partnership with the U.S. government - aims to support the growth of nuclear energy industries in Poland and across Europe.

With American LNG flowing “to and through Poland” (as Mr. Reich put it), energy market stability has already improved, supported by investments such as the Baltic Pipe, regional gas interconnectors, Poland's onshore LNG terminal, and its upcoming FSRU. These projects are not only stabilizing Poland’s domestic market but also strengthening energy security across the entire Central and Eastern European (CEE) region.

Representatives including Miroslaw Kowalik from Westinghouse Electric Company, Sławomir Zygowski from GE Power, and Karol Warakomski from Skyborn Renewables briefed Mr. Reich and the audience on their respective projects, helping to illustrate the broader development of Poland’s energy system. Following the presentations, AmCham members had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session.
