What does critical infrastructure mean today? This was one of the key questions that we set out to explore during yesterday’s event “Cybersecurity of Critical Infrastructure: New Approaches” that we hosted in partnership with CMS Poland and Fortinet.
The event was opened by Mateusz Jurczyk, AmCham, and featured two insightful discussion panels: “Technology for (Cyber)Resilient Infrastructure” and “UKSC, NIS2, CER and Other Regulations Shaping Digital Security.” The panels were introduced by Joanna Chmielak, Fortinet, and Damian Karwala, Ph.D., CMS Poland.
Our first panel with Łukasz Bromirski, Cisco; dr Kamil Faber, AGH University of Krakow; Piotr Gastal, ORLEN Ochrona Sp. z o.o.; Dariusz Kluska, Grupa TAURON; and Szymon Poliński, Fortinet, moderated by Janusz Pietruszyński, CIRE, centered on cybersecurity in critical infrastructure, emphasizing visibility, human awareness, and resilience against growing threats such as ransomware and supply chain attacks. Our experts highlighted that AI, training, and system integration are key to defense - but people remain the most vital element. We also agreed that cybersecurity priorities have shifted, requiring constant testing, limited transparency for safety, and cross-sector collaboration to protect essential services.
The second panel, with Damian Karwala, Ph.D., CMS Poland; Marta Kozłowska, HP Inc Poland; Adam Marczynski, NASK; Anna Mroczek, PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna; and Olga Wiszowata, Ministry of Digital Affairs (Ministerstwo Cyfryzacji), moderated by Bartosz Szyler, AmCham, focused on UKSC, NIS 2, CER, and other cybersecurity regulations shaping the current legal framework in Poland and the EU. Our panelists highlighted the complexity and coordination challenges associated with multiple overlapping national and European acts. The discussion also focused on implementing the newly adopted NIS 2 Directive in Poland, and explored the issues involved in preparing businesses to apply the new regulations.
We would also like to express our sincere thanks to CMS and Fortinet for their active involvement and valuable insights. This event would not have been possible without the support of Katarzyna Brodowska, CMS Poland, and Beata Baran, Fortinet. A very special thank-you goes to Magdalena Kierzkowska, CMS Poland, for going above and beyond to ensure the event ran seamlessly.
