AmCham Gdańsk & Quinnipiac University Business Mixer

On January 11, 2024 had a great opportunity to meet with the members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Gdańsk to welcome in the new year and to introduce Quinnipiac University and its programs through the Endowed Polish Chair.  The Polish Chair at Quinnipiac University, funded by a generous contribution from the Pete and Kasia Novak family, has been tasked with building bridges between the Quinnipiac student and faculty community and its Polish counterparts in academia, business, and non-profit organizations. This casual “wine and cheese” evening with great conversation was enhanced by being held at the wonderful “Mielżyński Wine, Spirits, Specialties” venue located in the historic “Fire Station” of the former Imperial Shipyard, known today as the Gdansk Shipyard. This event was organized by Dr. Barbara Stepnowska, Director of the AMCHAM Gdansk and the endowed Polish Chair at Quinnipiac University- Gedeon W. Werner,

Quinnipiac University, briefly introduced several programs offered.  Among them:

Student Virtual Consulting Project where QU business major students assist Polish companies with pro bono business consulting,

Start Up Academy and Pitch Competition implemented in close collaboration with Kozminski University, Warsaw where joint QU-Kozminski teams pitch their business ideas before American investors,

Virtual internship program for AI/Data science and CIS students (to be initiated),

Company visits for QU students visiting Poland as a part of their emersion summer international travel (this was already initiated by Intel who hosted QU students in Summer 23),

Joint research between QU and Kozminski University faculty on AI-Driven Virtual Assistants in the Workplace,

Promoting athletic scholarship opportunities in the US for Polish female athletes (volleyball and soccer).

During the evening’s discussions several AMCHAM member companies expressed their interest in learning more about the opportunities of supporting some of these initiatives on a mutually beneficial basis.

Of course the evening would not have be complete without lottery prizes: QU 2023 Men Hockey NCAA US Championship memorabilia (QU Men’s Hockey Team won the National NCAA Championship in 2023); Trefl games donated by Mr. Kazimierz Wierzbicki of Trefl company; and of course, a good bottle of wine courtesy of Mr. Robert Mielżyński.
