In April 15, the AmCham HR Committee organized a meeting entitled The New Vision of HR Department – How COVID-19 changed our working models in HR? Our guests were Beata Jaźwiec, Country HR Head of Citi Handlowy; Barbara Kaleta, Member of the Board and HR Director of Commercial Metals Company Poland; and Magdalena Kowalczewska, HR Manager, IBM BTO Business Consulting Services.
We discussed what practical changes COVID-19 had brought businesses in the four main HR functions, recruitment and inductions, training and talent management, benefits and bonuses, and safety and legal risks. Some conclusions from the presentations confirmed that surprisingly employees like online communication and feel more informed than before the pandemic, so do online training (IBM). According to Citi, regular contacts with managers are the best remedy for stress and anxiety. To let people maintain work-life balance and take a break from all technical devices, they decided to introduce Fridays without zoom for their employees. As an industrial company, CMC needed to take a different approach as far as communication channels are concerned (they use posters at their facilities instead of e-mail communication).
