The discussion involved in this meeting was about a European Commission Initiative called the Digital Service Act. This act will change the rules on the provisioning of digital services in the European Union. The act is planned to be published in December 2020 and will have a great impact on EU competitiveness and the ability of the digital sector to keep innovating. The goal of the new regulation is to harmonize national rules and make internet platforms more responsible for users’ content as well as enhance it with regulatory oversight for digital platform business practices such as transparency, fairness standards, the rules of data usage, etc. Our guest speakers have confirmed the importance of this new regulation no to diminish the development of IT services. Our guests have also declared an openness for future dialogue and cooperation with business regarding the new regulations as the new law should serve the business itself.
