John Boehner, US Speaker in Poland for talks on trade and security

U.S. Speaker of the House, John Boehner (R-Ohio) met with senior executives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Poland on July 1, 2015. Speaker Boehner, third in line to the U.S. Presidency, was in Europe with a delegation of seven other Representatives of the U.S. Congress, visiting Poland, Lithuania, Finland, and Ireland to assess current political, security and economic realities. “We’re here to show people we care,” said Speaker Boehner. AmCham executives briefed the delegation on the Polish energy market, defense modernization, TTIP and expectations from the economic crisis in Greece. AmCham Chairman, Tony Housh, emphasized that, “This delegation is among friends here in Poland and we have been fortunate to host many high-level officials from the U.S. Administration these past two years.” With Speaker Boehner were senior members of the congressional sub-committees like Greg Walden (Communications and Technology), John Shimkus (Environment and the Economy), and Michael Simpson (Energy and Water Development). Visiting Poland was also Rep Dan Lipinski (D-IL), Ann Wagner (R-MO), Mike Kelly (R-PA), and Susan Brooks (R-IN). Speaker Boehner reflected on the priority issues for the U.S. Congress like trade, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and the U.S. tax code, adding that, “It’s time to find some common ground to get things done. I expect this will be the most productive year of the last six for the U.S. Congress.”
