4th of July Picnic 2014

On July 5th over 1000 AmCham members along with their families and friends joined the U.S. Ambassador Stephen D. Mull, AmCham Chairman Joseph Wancer and the AmCham Board, as well as representatives of business, politics and culture at the Polonia Stadium in Warsaw to celebrate not only the U.S. Independence Day, but also 25 years of Polish freedom at the 4th of July Picnic. It is commitment to and love of freedom that made our histories alike and is tying our countries together for years now. It has been one quarter a century since Poland found its way to democracy and 24 years since the constitution of AmCham Poland, which is supporting American business activities in Poland. In his welcoming speech Ambassador Mull emphasized the confluences of our historical experiences and expressed his faith in further cooperation. He said that there is no other country like Poland to understand American way to independence.

That is why we believe so strongly in relevancy of commemoration of the first democratic elections in Poland along with 238thanniversary of U.S.’ Independence.

The official part of the Picnic commenced with the traditional presentation of the colors by U.S. Marines, and both American and Polish national anthems performed by Folk Group Promni.

The event featured many attractions like opening show performed by Acrobat Team Grishina, or Zumba show by Beactive with introduction from fitness celebrity Ewa Chodakowska. We all enjoyed ourselves to the rhythm of live music by Trace!.

We hope everyone found something engaging for themselves at the Picnic. While adult participants spent great time socializing, visiting the food, Jack Daniels and Finlandia tents, the younger ones played at the Kids Corner sponsored by Universal Express and Express Relocations. They also participated in various sport activities with sport gadgets provided by Accenture. Amateurs of new technologies were welcomed in Oculus tent where they could get the feeling of a dangerous rollercoaster ride. For the delight of the children our Platinum Sponsors – Metlife and McDonald’s brought Snoopy and Ronald McDonald with them. What is more, Kids Corner was full of many other attractions such as inflatable castle, trampoline and face-painting, loved by the youngest ones.

The Platinum sponsor of the event, McDonald’s, served tasty McNuggets and shrimp along with fresh salads, ice-cream, refreshing smoothies and frappes. CH Robinson’s tent gained huge popularity serving fresh watermelon. Delicious food of any kind including grill dishes was provided by catering from Sheraton Warsaw, Bristol Hotel, Ferier, The InterContinental Hotel, which had ice-cream to suit any palate, Subway prepared sandwiches for guests and for sweet-teethed ones Chupa-Chups had a perfect selection of candies. Drinks were served by Brown Forman – the distributor of Jack Daniel’s whiskey and Finlandia, beer was provided by Namysłów and Perła, Cider Inn met the demand for cool cider, and soft drinks were provided by Coca-Cola and Pepsi. Special thanks go to Levi's, which outfitted the AmCham staff for the event. For those who wanted to keep the memory of this evening, Flashbox provided photo booth where they could capture the moment dressed with accessories reminding of the PRL-like climate of the polish 80s.

The most exciting moment of the evening was definitely the announcement of the AmCham Charity Raffle winners. This year’s grand prize was sponsored by Airfrance/KLM/Delta airlines - two round-trip tickets to the any destination in the US. Other grand raffle prizes that surely made their new owners smile included a Sharp BoomBox from McDonald’s, bicycle sponsored by Avis and VIP entrance for two for any Legia game from one of our Platinum Sponsors - CH Robinson. We could not be more thankful to all the companies that donated wonderful prizes for our raffle making it special (and tempting for guests). All proceeds have supported our charity fund. This time we raised money for the Ronald McDonald Foundation, several children’s homes and a single mothers’ shelter in Poland that needed our help.

The Picnic ended with a magnificent, spectacular fireworks show, and one can notice the symbolic nature of the beautiful music theme – Winds of Change by Scorpions.
